Successful First Girls camp!

We’re thrilled to share the success of our first-ever one-day girls rugby camp at Goldington Road.

This event was a significant milestone for us at the Bedford Blues Foundation, as we continue our commitment to inspiring the next generation of female rugby players and fostering a love for the game in our community.

Our camp was designed to give girls in the local area a taste of what it’s like to be a Blues player for the day. Under the guidance of our dedicated Foundation staff, including Daisy D’Onofrio, who represents Italy’s Under-18 national rugby team, and Lilly Staniford from Old Albanians Rugby Club, the girls participated in various training drills focused on core rugby skills and even underwent fitness tests with the help of Blues strength and conditioning coaches.

Daisy and Lilly brought a wealth of knowledge and passion to the camp, sharing their own experiences in the sport and inspiring each young player to push themselves and develop new skills. Throughout the day, the girls honed their passing, tackling, and strategic play, while also building confidence and teamwork skills.

Daisy remarked, "It’s fantastic to see so many girls here today, getting stuck in and giving their all. Rugby is an amazing sport that teaches discipline, teamwork, and respect, and it’s wonderful to see the next generation so eager to learn."

With the Rugby World Cup just a year away and the tournament being hosted here in England, we couldn’t think of a better time to launch our girls rugby camp. We’re excited to contribute to the growing enthusiasm for rugby in our community and want to make sure more girls have access to this amazing sport.

This camp is only the beginning. We’re already planning future training camps and events to continue supporting young female athletes in Bedfordshire, and we’re excited to see how they’ll grow as rugby players and individuals. We’re so proud of each girl who participated and can’t wait to see what the future holds for these young players.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this camp a success, especially Daisy, Lilly, and our strength and conditioning coaches. Together, we’re building a strong foundation for girls rugby in our community—one that will last for years to come.
